Warragamba
A lookout above Australia's largest urban water supply dam — a 142-metre concrete wall holding back the vast Lake Burragorang, the primary water supply for Sydney's 5 million residents. The scale of the dam is impressive from the visitor area above, with the gorge below and the dam wall framing an unusual industrial-natural landscape. Good picnic facilities and interpretive displays about Sydney's water supply. A short, easy visit worth combining with the nearby Blue Mountains foothills.
Drive west via the M7 and Silverdale Road to Warragamba. The dam visitor area is clearly signposted from the township. Ample free parking at the visitor centre.
Year-round visit. After significant rainfall the dam spillway may flow — a spectacular sight. Morning visits give the clearest light on the dam wall and gorge.
Free entry. Free parking at the visitor area.
