Waverton
A bushland peninsula jutting into Sydney Harbour in Waverton, offering panoramic views of the city skyline, Harbour Bridge, and passing container ships — all from a wild sandstone headland just 5km from the CBD. The reserve has Aboriginal rock engravings, remnant bushland, and walking tracks to multiple lookout points. Surprisingly quiet even on weekends. Access via Balls Head Road in Waverton; the steep path down to the water's edge is worth the effort.
Drive to Balls Head Road, Waverton, and park at the end of the road. Waverton train station is a 10-minute walk. A short but steep path leads from the entrance down to the headland.
Clear days for the best harbour views. Sunrise and late afternoon light are spectacular. The reserve is quietest on weekdays and in winter.
Free entry. Street parking on Balls Head Road.
