    Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park

    Lookout
    Walk

A hidden bay and waterfall lookout trail in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park with tranquil views over the Hawkesbury River and its mangrove-fringed inlets. The 4km return walk passes through dry sclerophyll forest and offers glimpses of the America Bay basin far below — a landscape largely unchanged since European settlement. Keep an eye out for wallabies and lyrebirds along the trail. Access is from West Head Road via the signposted turnoff.

    Getting There

Drive north via Mona Vale Road to Terry Hills and enter Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. Follow West Head Road to the signed America Bay trailhead. A national park entry fee applies at the gate.

    Best Time to Visit

Autumn and winter for clear views and comfortable walking temperatures. Spring for wildflowers along the trail. The track is shaded and manageable year-round.

    Tips

    • Keep an eye out for lyrebirds scratching in the leaf litter — early morning is the best time to spot them
    • Combine with West Head Lookout, a 5-minute drive away, for sweeping Pittwater views
    • The walk is 4km return and comfortable for most fitness levels

    Entry & Facilities

National park entry fee ($8/vehicle per day). Annual Parks Pass valid.
