    Pulpit Rock Lookout

    Blackheath

    Lookout
    Walk

A dramatic multi-level lookout jutting into the Grose Valley on the northern edge of Blackheath, with layered sandstone platforms at different heights giving progressively more exposed views deep into the canyon. The 4km return walk from Evans Lookout car park is one of the finest in the mountains — varied, immersive, and rewarding. Wildflowers line the track in spring, and wedge-tailed eagles are regularly seen riding thermals above the valley. One of the Blue Mountains' best half-day walks.

    Getting There

Drive to Blackheath via the Great Western Highway. Park at Evans Lookout car park on Evans Lookout Road — the Pulpit Rock walking track begins here and is 4km return.

    Best Time to Visit

Spring for wildflowers lining the track. Early morning for the clearest Grose Valley views before afternoon haze. Wedge-tailed eagles ride thermals mid-morning in warm weather.

    Tips

    • The 4km return walk is one of the Blue Mountains' finest — allow 2.5 hours and pack water and a snack
    • Multiple platforms along the route offer progressively more exposed and dramatic views as you walk
    • Combine with Evans Lookout at the car park and consider the Grand Canyon track for a full Blackheath day
