Royal National Park
An emerald-green natural swimming hole on the Karloo Track in Royal National Park, set in a shaded sandstone gorge with crystal-clear water and a peaceful atmosphere. The 7km return walk from Heathcote Station passes through tall scribbly gum forest and several smaller creek crossings before reaching the pool. The colours are extraordinary — particularly striking in the golden afternoon light. Accessible by train to Heathcote, making it possible without a car.
Train from Central to Heathcote (Illawarra line), then walk the signed Karloo Track from the station. By car, drive to Heathcote via the Princes Motorway and access the track from the end of MacKay Street.
Accessible by train — no car required. Summer afternoons when the pool is warmest. The golden afternoon light on the canyon walls is extraordinary.
National park entry fee may apply when entering by car. Train access avoids the park gate.
