Sydney
A remarkable heritage garden built inside the ruins of Sydney's former 1866 Paddington Reservoir, where exposed brick arches, flooded chambers, and Victorian infrastructure have been transformed into an atmospheric sunken park. The upper level is a conventional rooftop garden; the lower level is an extraordinary heritage space with arched brick vaults, water features, and installations. Free entry, open daily. A ten-minute walk from Oxford Street shops and cafes — easily missed and genuinely beautiful.
Walk from Oxford Street bus stops (routes 333, 380 from the CBD). The entrance is on Oxford Street, Paddington — the sunken garden is visible from the street.
Any time — the gardens are open daily from 8am. Quieter on weekday mornings. The brick vaults below are stunning in any light.
Free entry. Open daily.
